County wants sales tax for park improvements

Upgrading L.A. County’s parks and recreation is the goal of the Measure A parcel tax that voters will be asked to decide on Nov. 8.
Lofty goal, but it comes at a cost. If approved by two-thirds of the voters, the tax would impose a 1.5-cent per square foot levy on all residential and commercial properties within unincorporated L.A. County and its 88 cities. The tax would run about $22.50 per year for a 1,500-square-foot house, analysts say. The assessment would be permanent.
