Construction injury in Agoura

A 47-year-old man who was working on a public works project on Canwood Street in Agoura Hills was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center March 11 after a piece of concrete fell on him.

According to firefighter Steve Bernau of the Los Angeles County Fire Station 89 in Agoura Hills, a call came in at 2:15 p.m. on Monday regarding a man who was trapped in a dirt trench on Canwood Street. The victim was working on a water pipeline.

“When we got there the workers had already freed him,” Bernau said. “We checked him out and he was transported to UCLA Medical Center.”

Bernau said he assumed the man suffered some injuries, but he didn’t know to what extent he was hurt. “Maybe a couple of broken ribs,” he said.

Bernau said the man had been working on a broken pipeline for a private contractor when a slab of concrete that had been previously excavated collapsed on him.
