Conejo Valley Unified administrator named superintendent for Oxnard

The Oxnard Union High School District’s board of trustees has selected longtime Conejo Valley Unified School District school administrator Martha Mutz as its new assistant superintendent of educational services.

Mutz, who’s served as the director of curriculum and education media for CVUSD for the past seven years, replaces Judy Warner, who retired June 30 after 33 years in education, the last four years as assistant superintendent for OUHSD.

OUHSD trustees hired Mutz during its June 21 meeting following the recommendation of a selection committee made up of parents of OUHSD students as well as teachers, classified and certificated personnel from the district.

The committee and the district were impressed with Mutz’s knowledge of curriculum and instruction as well as her personable manner, said Roger Rice, OUHSD’s assistant superintendent for human services.

“Ms. Mutz has demonstrated a strong grasp of curriculum and instruction, assessment and accountability as well as the strong leadership skills necessary to facilitate growth in the area of student achievement,” Rice said.

Mutz has been with CVUSD since 1999. Prior to that, she was with the Las Virgenes Unified School District for 22 years, first as an elementary school teacher (1967-1988), then as an elementary school principal (1988-1999).

Mutz graduated from UCLA in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in French Literature. She also earned her teaching credential as well as master’s degree in education with an emphasis on curriculum from UCLA (1972) and has a second master’s degree in education with an emphasis on administration as well as her administrative credential from California Lutheran University (1984).
