Computers help with testing

For many students, the path of a college degree is being shortened with a mere click of a mouse.

The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) is now offering its exams on computer at college test centers around the country. Since 1967, CLEP has helped a range of people, from high school seniors to grandparents, from working adults to traditional-age college students, earn college credit at 2,900 colleges nationwide.

The launch of the new computer-based CLEP test now allows students to get their score results instantly. That means it’s possible to walk into a test center in the morning and earn six credits by lunchtime.

The 34 CLEP exams cover a wide range of subjects from Spanish language to business management. With qualifying scores, students can fulfill proficiency requirements and bypass introductory college courses, clearing a direct path to the course work most relevant to their major or career. Using CLEP’s accelerated method to earn credit, even students with full-time jobs can graduate in record time.

Those who have taken the CLEP test report in addition to saving time, the test also saves money. Each exam is $46—a fraction of the tuition for a similar college course. To date, more than 5 million people have taken CLEP exams, a savings of countless tuition dollars.

To prepare to take CLEP on computer, students may visit www.collegeboard.com/clep. The Website offers a complete listing of more than 1,400 test centers and the 2,900 colleges that grant credit for CLEP.

CLEP is administered by the College Board, a national nonprofit membership association dedicated to preparing, inspiring and connecting students to college and opportunity.
