Community SchoolHouse for Learning

Work Smart Inc., the umbrella corporation for Camp Helping Hands, a summer day camp for children, announces another venture: Community SchoolHouse.

Launched in September 2013, Community SchoolHouse teaches and serves homeschooling families through a service-learning philosophy and global focus. Specialty classes are provided on site, online and around town.

In addition to courses for homeschooling students, Community SchoolHouse provides consultation and administrative services such as transcript preparation and curriculum design.

With proper guidance and an individualized approach, families have the opportunity to customize their child’s education according to their interests, with a schedule that offers flexibility to meet their needs.

“After seeing the positive results Camp Helping Hands has had on my own child, I knew that incorporating service-learning and philanthropy into children’s education would allow them to establish a powerful connection with their community. This observation is what led to the concept of a homeschool learning environment with a similar approach,” said Meredith Madnick Cornelius, CEO of Women Work Smart, founder of Camp Helping Hands and co-founder of Community SchoolHouse.

In collaboration with the Conejo Recreation and Park District, Community SchoolHouse offers onsite classes geared toward core academic subjects like math, English and science.

Similar courses are also offered online through distancelearning.

Courses offered in partnership with My Stuff Bags and Ride On are more hands-on, service-based and philanthropic.

At My Stuff Bags, students learn about children in the foster care system and how organizations like My Stuff Bags offer support to ease their transition from home to home. For part of the course, students spend time in the warehouse where they assist with stuffing bags and making blankets.

At Ride On, students help groom and saddle horses while learning about equine therapy and how working with horses can help children with special needs feel better.

Co-founder Jeannie Gudith is a homeschooling expert with over 15 years experience working with homeschool families.

Gudith is a counseling and alternative education expert. Cornelius is a marketing and entrepreneur specialist.
