Stu Sobol, 50, a longtime member of the Calabasas Traffic and Transportation Commission and volunteer in the community, died on July 10 due to complications from pneumonia.

Sobol was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1958 and moved to Los Angeles with his wife, Julie, in 1981 where he became one of the top artist managers in the music industry. He ran Spivak Sobol Entertainment for many years and was responsible for breaking in such musical acts as The Calling, EVE 6, Queens of the Stone Age, Three Days Grace, Seether, A Perfect Circle and others.

Sobol also was an active member of Temple Kol Tikvah in Woodland Hills and served on the Calabasas traffic commission since 2000. He championed efforts to make his community safe for students to walk to school, and was so respected for his volunteer service in the city that he was nicknamed “Mayor.”

Sobol is survived by his wife Julie Shy-Sobol, son Adin, 15, and daughter Emma, 13.
