Coast Guard to strike up the band


Gardens of the World will host a free concert with the U.S. Coast Guard’s Guardian Brass Band from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sun., July 29 at the gardens, 2001 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks.

The quintet will play American patriotic tunes, classical music and marches.

Based in Oxnard, the group represents the Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security throughout the world, performing at concerts and high-profile ceremonies.

Part of the larger, 55-member U.S. Coast Guard Band, the Guardian Brass features trumpets, French horn, trombone, tuba and other brass instruments.

Guests can bring lawn seating and picnic baskets. Smoking, glass containers, alcohol and pets are not allowed.
