CLU to host California Court of Appeal justice

Justice Steven Perren of the California Court of Appeal (Second District), will speak at 10 a.m. Mon., Feb. 5 in California Lutheran University’s (CLU) Overton Hall. His lecture titled "Two Emerging Trends in Adjudication: Therapeutic Courts and Restorative Justice," is part of the annual Colloquium of Scholars Series.

Previously Perren served as a Ventura County Superior Court judge, Presiding Judge of the Juvenile Court and was the driving force behind Ventura County’s experimental Juvenile Drug Court.

Perren will discuss the national emergence of specialty courts that focus on crimes involving drugs, domestic violence and other issues. According to Perren, these "therapeutic courts" attempt to develop strategies for resolving underlying problems of people who come before the court, rather than simply punish the offender.
