CLU jazz musicians with Enzo Villaparedes




SWING IT—The Blues CLUS Band of the Cal Lutheran University Jazz Collective will play Fri., Dec. 9 on campus.

SWING IT—The Blues CLUS Band of the Cal Lutheran University Jazz Collective will play Fri., Dec. 9 on campus.

The Blues CLUS Band, comprised of student jazz musicians from Cal Lutheran University, will team up with special guest Enzo Villaparedes to present a concert at 7 p.m. Fri., Dec. 9 in Preus-Brandt Forum, 135 Chapel Lane on the Thousand Oaks campus.

Under director Uziel Colón, student performers in the Jazz Collective will play and improvise music from an eclectic repertoire of jazz standards and original arrangements of modern pop songs.

The performance will feature “All Blues” by Miles Davis, “Impressions” by John Coltrane, “A Night in Tunisia” by Dizzy Gillespie, “Maiden Voyage” by Herbie Hancock, “Sugar” by Stanley Turrentine, “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls, “Sir Duke” by Stevie Wonder, “Chameleon” by Herbie Hancock and “Soul Sauce (Wachi Wara)” by Cal Tjader.

Venezuelan-born Villaparedes is a singer, trumpet player and musical director. He performs with Enzo Y Su Clan and Sonoclip.

Colón is a pianist and composer.

The Studio City resident has performed at the Heineken JazzFest in Puerto Rico, the Beantown Jazz Fest in Boston, CJW in Beijing and the MadaJazzcar Festival in Madagascar. He works for The Latin Recording Academy.

There is no admission charge but donations will be accepted.
