RECUPERATING—Gary and Kathy Young’s dog Brady takes it easy with an empathetic feline friend after suffering a rattlesnake bite in the family’s Calabasas yard.

Gary and Kathy Young of Calabasas were surprised when, after 22 years of living in Calabasas, they had their first encounter with a rattlesnake.

On Sat., May 16, the Young’s dog Brady was bitten by a rattler that was hiding in a bougainvilla vine about three feet off the ground. The rattler was 18 inches long and about 2 or 3 years old.

Brady had to spend the night at the animal emergency hospital at Winnetka and Ventura boulevards. According to the Youngs, Brady received “very good treatment” there and was able to return home after 24 hours. Often, animals stay in the emergency hospital for up to 48 hours following a snake bite.

Because of Brady’s youth, his size and because he arrived at the animal hospital within 20 minutes, he’s doing just fine now— and, from the looks of it, he’s milking it for all it’s worth.
