The Calabasas City Council passed an ordinance Jan. 22 mandating that playgrounds and other outdoor areas for children must be at least 500 feet away from the freeway.
The city voted in September to create a 300-foot exclusion zone, but after seeking recommendations from the South Coast Air Quality Management District, a regional regulatory agency that works to improve and monitor the safety of air quality, the council moved to expand the distance to 500 feet.
