City of Westlake Village residents, businesses reach 52 percent recycling rate



The city of Westlake Village reports that its recycling rate has reached 52 percent.
The city is responding to Assembly Bill 939 of 1989, the California Integrated Waste Management Act, requiring all cities and counties to reduce the amount of disposed trash 25 percent by 1995 and 50 percent by 2000.
The legislation carries a penalty of $10,000 a day for noncompliance.
