City missing an opportunity with pot shops

Your recent article about Westlake Village’s refusal to allow cannabis stores in city limits mentions that the same decision is expected to be made in Agoura. If so, it will be another mistake made by our City Council.

Remember the Agoura Costco and how it was rejected due to concerns about traffic and the influx of “others” coming here to shop? Westlake is laughing all the way to the bank on that one.

How about the failed efforts to develop the corner of Kanan and Agoura roads? Again, our loss and Westlake’s gain. Mixed-use housing? Same thing.

Our city profits from legal adult vice shops—a cigarette store and two liquor marts are within a 5-minute walk from my home. We all know by now that liquor and cigarettes kill millions every year, but there isn’t one death attributed to cannabis anywhere in our country.

So, good for our City Council members who again showcase their shortsighted ignorance and throw all that real tax revenue to Thousand Oaks, which is also laughing at us.

While they’re at it, why don’t they just shut down all of Agoura’s restaurants, office buildings and supermarkets too? After all, there are plenty in Westlake and T.O. We don’t need them in Agoura.
