City has been deceitful;

City has been deceitful;

yes on ‘H’

To voters of Agoura Hills who, like me, are undecided about Measure H, I urge you to read the Los Angeles Times article of Feb. 11 about the proposed Home Depot development. The article presents factual information that was previously unavailable to voters.

First, the article documents the existence of a draft development agreement between the city council and the developer. The article documents that the development will require a substantial investment from the city of Agoura Hills, up to 20 percent of its operating budget, for many years before the developer must invest in the project. The article also documents the existence of a consultant’s analysis showing that Agoura Hills may never recoup its investment.

The article further documents that the agreement has been under negotiation for three years before the developer must invest in the project.

The article further documents that the agreement has been under negotiation for three years, but the city denied its existence until February 2002, and the evasiveness of our elected officials when they were questioned directly about the development agreement.

The article describes the similarity between the Agoura Hills project and a project recently completed by the same developer on a contaminated, former industrial parcel in the San Fernando Valley. The article documents that the project required a massive taxpayer subsidy and that both the developer and city council are planning a similar taxpayer subsidy for the Agoura Hills project. The article also describes how the project will require a significant flattening of a large portion of Ladyface Mountain.

Finally, the article documents that the developer and Home Depot have financed a major portion of the campaign against Measure H, and this campaign funding far exceeds the funding for the campaign supporting Measure H.

I hope all voters will consider the facts presented in the Times article and other factual information that becomes available, before the March election.
