City councilwoman in Calabasas should stop insulting Lupin Hill Elementary School

It recently came to my attention that at the Dec. 11 City Council/School District meeting, Lesley Devine, a city councilmember, again made a negative comment on the appearance of Lupin Hill Elementary School. As a parent of Lupin Hill students, I am appalled that such a comment would be made at a public meeting.

My children have attended Lupin Hill for the past four years, and what I have seen is continued improvements — new playground equipment, Hees Hall (a wonderful new auditorium), a new computer lab with 30 computers and a network, an art room, a garden of reading, major landscaping and continued beautification of our school; as well as much needed on-campus after-school day care from the YMCA and the city of Calabasas.

Maybe you [Devine] don’t like our appearance, and that would be your opinion, but do you know what Lupin Hill is really made up of?

We have a school principal who has helped all of the above happen. She has turned the school around in the past four years and has made a difference in the lives of 800 students (and their families).

Our scores went up 43 points, a credit to our amazing hard-working teaching staff, who work all hours of the day, night and weekends.

We have wonderful programs that we have piloted for special needs students.

We have dedicated parents and neighbors who volunteer tremendous hours to help raise money for our music, computer, P.E. and art programs, by selling scrip and participating in various fundraisers.

Lupin Hill teachers, staff, office workers, and parents all work hard for our children and the programs that brighten their future.

These are spirited and dedicated human beings, and I am proud to be associated with them and Lupin Hill.
