Chumash becoming ersatz dog park

Why waste money building a dog park in Agoura when you have Chumash Park acting as the local dog park? Everyone has their dog off leash there, running straight past the three signs stating “Dogs should be on leash at all times.”

The majority of people drive to the park, open the door to let their dogs out to run around and watch them cause mayhem. They don’t pick up after their dogs with the poo bags provided for free, so the park is full of dog poop for the sports teams to slide in.

If you happen to be walking a dog on leash, be prepared to be attacked. That goes for the kiddies using the playground.

And if the owner screams, “He won’t bite you” as their dog is running towards you at great speed and growling, don’t rely on them to be telling the truth.

I just wonder why these off leash dog owners don’t use the two dog parks which are located within a five- to 10-minute drive or less (Calabasas and Oak Park)? Why do they drive to Chumash Park instead? Could it be that their dogs aren’t socially adjusted enough to behave properly at a dog park so they have to use public parks instead? Since everyone else is using Chumash as an offleash dog park, why shouldn’t they?

Why can’t all dog owners just abide by the rules clearly stated at the park and keep their dogs on a leash at all times, letting everyone use the park in a safe environment—dog walkers, sports visitors, children and anyone who wants to use their local park as a place for relaxation and enjoyment.

If you are enjoying your local park and see a dog running around off leash, please tell the owner to abide by the park rules and put their dog back on the leash. Keep the parks for everyone to enjoy.
