Jim Adams recently announced that he will step down at the end of the school year as president at Chaminade school in West Hills, a coed Catholic school for grades six through 12. He will become a president emeritus at the school.

During Adams’ tenure, the school sponsored two major capital campaigns that built the Fr. Allen DeLong Center for Arts and Athletics on the school’s Chatsworth campus and the Condon Family Foundation Center for Science and Technology and the Tutor Family Center for the Performing Arts on the West Hills campus.

The three buildings have added more than 80,000 square feet of space for classroom learning, lab work, creative endeavors and athletics.

Under Adams’ leadership, Chaminade has maintained a balanced budget. During the recession, the school launched and successfully completed a $6 million capital campaign, the largest in its history.

Chaminade also established a one-to-one student tablet PC program, and tripled its financial aid budget since the 2006-2007 school year.

Adams joined Chaminade in July 1996, and has worked in Catholic education for 39 years. Prior to joining Chaminade, he served as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent of schools in the Diocese of Sacramento.

He is a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks and Cal State Northridge. He also has a master’s degree from the University of San Francisco in education administration.

He has served on the adjunct faculty of the Education Leadership program at St. Mary’s College in Moraga and is a parttime consultant with Meitler Consultants Inc., an educational planning firm in Milwaukee, Wis.

In 2010, Adams was named by San Fernando Valley Business Journal as Best Not-for-Profit Executive. In 2012, he received the Catholic Secondary Education Award from the National Catholic Educational Association for his service to Catholic education.

The Chaminade board of directors has formed a President Search Committee and begun the leadership transition process.
