Chabad opens food bank




In response to the lingering recession, Chabad of the Conejo will be opening a food bank to help struggling individuals and families put food on the table.

According to Rabbi Moshe Bryski, executive director of Chabad of the Conejo, Chabad typically receives more people asking for help during this time of year, and never turns anyone away. The increased volume of requests has prompted the organization’s leadership to tackle the crisis on a larger scale.

Those residing in the Conejo Valley—Agoura Hills, Oak Park, Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park—who are struggling to feed themselves or their families can choose from a list of food items with quantity options, and submit their requests in person, by fax or email.

Food packages consisting of a week’s supply will be filled accordingly and made available for pick up.

Select deliveries will be made to the homes of elderly, disabled or otherwise non-ambulatory individuals.

The program is non-sectarian and open to Jews and non-Jews. .

The program is set to run throughout the holiday season until the end of January. The program may continue beyond that point with financial support.

Food retailers or wholesalers who would like to donate appropriate goods for the effort are likewise asked to call.
