Caltrans to replace concrete median barrier on US 101

Caltrans plans to begin construction this summer to replace the concrete median barrier on the US 101 spanning 19.3 miles between Hollywood and Woodland Hills in Los Angeles.

Construction is scheduled to start Aug. 10 and continue until early 2023.

Replacement of the existing barrier is part of a district-wide safety goal to improve the effectiveness of the barrier and reduce median collision severity for motorists.

Additionally, the increased height of the upgraded median barrier will provide glare protection from opposing traffic.

The project will be constructed on US 101 (Hollywood Freeway/Ventura Freeway) between Pilgrimage Bridge in Hollywood and Valley Circle Boulevard in Woodland Hills.

The construction will occur at night, starting at 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and ending by 6 a.m. the next morning before peak travel hours.

The work will be done in 3-mile segments beginning in Hollywood and progressing toward Woodland Hills.

The schedule is weather permitting. All dates and times are subject to change.

Some lanes may be closed in either direction or both directions simultaneously to facilitate a safe work zone for workers and motorists.

At least one or two lanes in each direction will remain open for traffic while work is underway.

Residents and businesses near the freeway are advised to anticipate noise, vibrations and dust associated with construction activities.

OHL USA Inc. of Irvine was named contractor on the $49.7-million project.

Motorists should expect delays and are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
