People who would like to support the Cell Phones for Soldiers program can drop off phones and accessories between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily in the reception area of Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Cemetery at 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village.

Since the program began over three years ago, Pierce Brothers, with support of Westlake Village and surrounding communities, has collected more than 1,000 cellphones and accessories that provided over 62,000 minutes of call time to American service men and women.

Pierce Brothers serves as a collection center for Cell Phones for Soldiers, a nonprofit organization that provides cost-free communication services to active duty military members and veterans.

Based in Norwell, Mass., the nonprofit was founded in 2004 by Robbie and Brittany Bergquist, then 12 and 13 years old. The organization has provided 192 million minutes of free talk time to deployed military members.

“As community members upgrade their phones and embrace new phones like those recently announced, we hope they remember to bring their old phones to Pierce Brothers so we can help even more of our military families,” said Tamara Eacker, Pierce Brothers general manager.
