Calabasas Landfill hosts waste roundup

Residents can safely dispose of electronic and hazardous waste


Los Angeles County residents will have the opportunity to safely discard of household hazardous waste as well as e-waste from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sun., June 8 at the Calabasas Landfill Scale Area, 5300 Lost Hills Road, Agoura.

The free Countywide Household Hazardous and E-Waste Roundup Program event will accept such items as antifreeze, unused pharmaceuticals, car batteries, used motor oil, paint, pesticides, household batteries, fluorescent light bulbs and homegenerated sharps waste such as hypodermic, pen and intravenous needles, syringes and lancets.

Electronic waste such as TVs and monitors, computers, VCRs, stereos and cellphones can be dropped off as well.

The roundup program is brought to residents by the County of Los Angeles and presented by the Department of Public Works and the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County in cooperation with the Community of Unincorporated Agoura and the cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas,

Hidden Hills, Los Angeles, Malibu and Westlake Village.

Because hazardous waste can pollute the environment, it is illegal to discard these items in trashcans, sinks and storm drains. The roundups are part of a campaign to promote public awareness of proper disposal practices of household hazardous and e-waste and to provide a convenient, free disposal option.
