Calabasas Inn development a ‘monstrosity’

After reading the story about the proposed development on the site of the old Calabasas Inn and looking at the artist’s rendition, one must wonder what would compel the planning department to approve such a monstrosity.

Is this the same planning department that approved The Summit shopping center off Lost Hills Road? Or the huge new performing arts center at Calabasas High School that looks like a prison?

I don’t think the city’s current planning department is fit to approve a doghouse.

This project looks like something that belongs in Warner Center, not 100 feet from the overcrowded and overcongested Commons.

In 2008, the City Council approved a 175,000-square-foot development on that site. At that time, many residents believed that was too large and too intrusive for the area. Now, five years later, the developer comes back with a project that’s nearly 40,000 square feet larger and the city’s planning department approves it?

Someone wrote a letter last week that suggested corruption. Now I’m starting to wonder if some members on the planning department need to be replaced immediately.

All hope now rests with the City Council, and I hope they use sound judgment and send this project back to the developer to downsize and revise this project.
