After years of Marmonte League misfortune, the Calabasas girls’ basketball team finally got its first ever league win last Friday night with a 46-43 victory at Agoura.

Junior guard Tori Cusick led the Coyotes with 13 points and three assists.

Senior guard Lindsay Marcus added nine points and three rebounds for CHS.

The Coyote win ended a streak of 46 consecutive Marmonte losses, according to assistant athletic director Don Cusick. It also marks the first time since joining the Marmonte that Calabasas doesn’t occupy last place in the league standings, head coach Stan Whited said.

“It was a very big win for us,” Whited said. “There was pandemonium. The girls were doing cartwheels on the court. It was like we won a championship or something.”

Entering last night’s game vs. Thousand Oaks, Calabasas’ record stood at 612 overall and 1-5 in league. A win over T.O. would’ve put CHS in a tie with the Lancers for sixth place in league.

Whited said the win over Agoura should help the team’s confidence as it heads into the final month of the regular season.

“We’re hoping the girls rally around this and build some momentum,” Whited said. “The girls just need to keep staying positive.”
