Calabasas residents are mourning the loss of a city founder, cultural leader and early mayor.

Karyn Foley, a member of the Calabasas Cityhood Committee and one of the first five City Council members, died on March 9 at the age of 82. A cause of death was not disclosed, but according to sources her health had been failing for some time.

Foley served two terms on the Calabasas City Council, from 1991 to 1997, and was the city’s first female mayor, from 1994 to 1995.
