Cal Lu coach steps down

An era has ended at Cal Lutheran.

Ben McEnroe, who has been head coach of the school’s football team for 14 seasons, will step down on May 15.

He will coach middle and high school students at Grace Community School in Tyler, Texas.

“It has been a tremendous honor to lead Kingsmen football at my alma mater. Our family has been blessed by our time at Cal Lutheran, and we look forward to staying connected with the program, our friends and the university,” McEnroe said in a statement.

McEnroe’s Cal Lutheran teams won 35 of 37 conference games from 2009 to 2012, including a streak of 27 straight conference victories. He coached Canadian Football League wide receiver Eric Rogers, who spent time in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers, and multiple All-Americans.

During his reign at Chaminade High of West Hills, McEnroe coached Ryan Griffin, a Conejo Valley native and Super Bowl champion quarterback with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Anthony Lugo, a longtime Cal Lutheran assistant coach, was named interim head coach.
