Button sales tied to awareness

Ventura County Credit Union is in partnership with the Ribbons of Life Breast Cancer Foundation to raise funds in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

During October, VCCU will sell breast cancer awareness buttons at each of its seven branches with 100 percent of proceeds benefitting the local nonprofit organization.

In November 2014, VCCU donated $2,353 to Ribbons of Life through the contributions of VCCU members and employees. This year, the credit union hopes to exceed that amount through the combination of button sales and individual donations from VCCU members and staff.

Ribbons of Life was started in 2002 by breast cancer survivor Lisa Barreto under the name Ventura College Breast Cancer Education and Advocacy Group. The organization officially formed as a nonprofit in 2007. Ribbons of Life provides various education projects, support programs and special events.
