Brushfire caused by fireworks, officials say

A two-acre brushfire in Calabasas near Agoura and Liberty Canyon roads came within a couple hundred yards of homes between 4:07 and 6:30 p.m. on Tues., July 8, according to officials.

Three kids playing with illegal fireworks allegedly caused the blaze.

Fireworks in Calabasas, like most local areas, are illegal.

Los Angeles and Ventura County firefighters arrived on the scene and used a helicopter that helped douse the flames.

"There were no damages to any structures, just brush," said Los Angeles County Fire Department Station No. 68 Capt. Anthony Hill. "Three suspects, a 12-year-old, a 13-year-old and another of an unknown age, were caught."

No one was hurt.

Hill said the sheriff’s department arson detail was investigating the incident. He had no additional information. Details won’t be available until the investigation is complete, officials said.

The children, according to L.A. County Fire Station No. 125 Capt. Mark Nare, are from the Calabasas area.

Parents can be liable for costs, if their children are found to be guilty of arson.
