L.A. Symphonic Winds in concert

The Los Angeles Symphonic Winds will perform a special “Stars from the L.A. Winds” concert at 2:30 p.m. Sun., March 15 at the Performing Arts Education Center at Calabasas High School, 22855 Mulholland Hwy.

Under the direction of Stephen Piazza, some of L.A.’s leading music educators—all members of the L.A. Winds—as well as their students will perform several of the ensemble’s most renowned composers, conductors and performers.

The program includes works by Jules Massenet, Karl King and John Philip Sousa; guitar concerto by James Domine; and ensemble classics by Percy Grainger, Michael Daugherty and Scott Joplin.

Attendees can join the musicians for a post-concert reception at Marmalade Café, 4783 Commons Way, Ste. E, Calabasas.

The café will donate a percentage of sales to the L.A. Winds Annual Fund.

Advance tickets are $20. Tickets at the door will be $30.

Piano and flute duet on Sunday

As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, United Methodist Church Westlake Village will host an Ivory and Gold concert at 4 p.m. Sun., March 15 at 1049 S. Westlake Blvd.

Ivory and Gold is the husbandand wife team of Jeff Barnhart on piano and vocals, and Anne Barnhart on flute and vocals.

The concert will include guest performer Riley Baker on drums, trombone and tuba.

Ivory and Gold has performed on six continents in many venues, including the Monterey Jazz Festival.

The couple labels its music “eclectic Americana,” featuring a variety of styles including ragtime, swing, Broadway and gospel.

Chorus seeks new women singers

Channelaire Chorus is open to new singers. The group is for women of all ages who love to sing four-part a cappella harmony, barbershop style.

Rehearsals are held weekly from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays at 850 Ivywood Drive, Oxnard.

Organizers say the group is dedicated to advancing their art form through education, performances and competition.
