Dems garden party

The Democratic Club of the Conejo Valley will host its 16th annual Garden Party Luncheon from noon to 3 p.m. Sun., Aug. 12 at Los Robles Greens Banquet Hall, 299 S. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks.

The public can attend. Conejo Valley Democrats and state and federal legislators will be present.

The event will have a lunch buffet, live and silent auctions and a photo booth.

The speakers will be: Kevin de Leon, candidate for U.S. Senate; U.S. Rep Julia Brownley; state Sen. Henry Stern, and Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin.

Board openings

Community Action of Ventura County, the 52-year-old social services agency helping the area’s poor and homeless, is recruiting low-income and private-sector representatives for its board of directors.

Two seats are open for representatives from the low-income sector, and one seat for a representative from the private sector.

All candidates must reside within Ventura County. Seats remain open until filled.

CAVC helps people overcome poverty through advocacy, partnerships and services that promote dignity and self-sufficiency and provides services throughout the county to address the causes and effects of poverty.
