Snow carnival

The Oak Park Neighborhood School Parent Advisory Board will present its 10th annual Snow Carnival fundraiser from 3 to 6 p.m. Sat., Jan. 20 at 1010 Kanan Road, Oak Park.

The community event will raise funds to benefit the Oak Park school’s enrichment programs and tools for the classrooms.

In addition to 25 tons of snow for kids to play in, there will also be a DJ, bounce house, games, crafts and food for children from 2 to 10 years old.


Poster contest open

Entries are being accepted for the 35th annual California Strawberry Festival Official Poster Contest.

The winner will receive $2,000 and four VIP tickets to the official poster unveiling luncheon on Tues., March 6.

Artists can submit entries in oils, watercolors, inks, photography or mixed media. The entry deadline is Thurs., Feb. 1.

The winning poster will be available for purchase during the festival weekend, May 19 and 20, 2018, at Strawberry Meadows of College Park in Oxnard.

The design will be incorporated into many of the festival’s promotional materials.

No more than two entry submissions will be accepted for consideration from each artist. No entries will be accepted from artists who have previously won the grand prize on two occasions.

All artwork must be original. Past winning posters can be viewed on the festival website.

Survival training

The National Safety Council and TWA Safety LLC will host a “Surviving an Active Shooter Event” program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thurs., Jan. 11 at the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center, 27040 Malibu Hills Road, Calabasas.

Participants will learn how to prepare for a potential active shooter incident; recognize options; quickly determine a plan; and take the most effective action.
