Breast cancer awareness programs are scheduled at hospital, mall

Both seminars are free


The 13th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar, sponsored by Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center, will take place on two consecutive Wednesdays, Oct. 21 and 28, at 6:30 p.m. at the hospital, classroom 1, 215 W. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.

A light supper will be served. Parking is free in the hospital’s parking structure.

•On Oct. 21, the featured speakers will be Catherine Moses, MD, interventional radiologist, explaining how early detection can increase the chances of survival, and Mai Brooks, MD, breast health specialist, explaining the best surgical treatment options.

•On Oct. 28, Martin C. Palmer, medical oncologist, will discuss how chemotherapy and targeted therapies play a part in breast cancer treatment, and Paul Miller, MD, radiation oncologist, will explain how radiation therapy fits into the overall treatment.

A question-and-answer period will follow each presentation.

Health Chat seminar

•A free seminar on breast cancer will be presented from 9 to 10 a.m. Thurs., Oct. 22 at The Oaks mall near Macy’s Women’s store on the lower level.

Mai Brooks, MD, a breast specialist at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center, will discuss how to prevent and survive breast cancer.

Refreshments will be served. Reservations are not required but are appreciated.

The seminar is part of Health Chat, a free health education program every third and fourth Thursday of the month. The program is sponsored by Los Robles Hospital and The Oaks.
