Boy Scouts collecting food donations

Conejo Valley Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will be asking for food donations to help out hungry families in the community as part of the Scouts’ nationwide service project Scouting for Food from Feb. 16 through 28.

The Scouts will place empty shopping bags on porches and front steps of homes. Residents can place nonperishable food items in the bag.

Food collected by the Scouts will be distributed to families in need by Manna Conejo Valley Food Bank. Manna, established in 1971, serves 1,400 people per month throughout the greater Conejo Valley.

Requested items to donate are: canned tuna and meat, mac and cheese, Hamburger Helper, canned pasta, canned stew and chili, peanut butter, jelly and jams, canned vegetables and fruit, cereal and oatmeal, canned soup, boxed rice and pasta, coffee, tea, catsup, mustard, mayo, salad dressing, toilet paper, toothpaste, shampoo and dish soap.

In 2014, over 22,000 food items were collected by 458 Scouts in the annual food drive.
