B’nei mitzvah training for adults




Temple Ner Simcha in Westlake Village will offer an Adult B’nei Mitzvah Program from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays starting June 1 at Temple Ner Simcha, 880 Hampshire Road, Westlake Village. The temple shares space with the Center for Spiritual Living.

All classes and the culminating b’nei mitzvah ceremony in the winter are free of charge. Participants do not have to be members of TNS.

The classes are open to those over the age of 13. Knowledge or synagogue involvement is not a prerequisite.

Taught by Cantor Paul Dorman and rabbinic intern Jodi Spindel, the classes will guide participants through learning Hebrew and the prayers and readings required to lead services in an adult b’nei mitzvah service. The teachers have cumulatively have guided over 700 bar/ bat mitzvah students.

Dorman has created award-winning music and progressive services that help people understand traditional Judaism in a modern way.

Spindel is enrolled in the modern rabbi course at Rabbinical Seminary International. Since 2000, she has been teaching Hebrew and Jewish studies to children and teens and preparing both children and adults for bar/bat mitzvah.
