Beatles, Monkees bands to kick off summer concerts




The Conejo Recreation and Park District’s 2010 summer concert series kicks off on Memorial Day with Beatles and Monkees tributes at 5 p.m. Mon., May 31 in the natural amphitheater at Conejo Community Park, 1175 Hendrix Ave., Thousand Oaks.

The show opens with Pleasant Valley Sunday, a tribute band that recreates the music and slapstick comedy skits of The Monkees.

The second half features Paperback Writer: The Beatles Experience, presenting The Beatles’ music from their early years to the Sgt. Pepper days and beyond with complex production numbers and costume changes.

Guests should bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Snack vendors will be available. Leave pets at home.

Following are the remaining concerts in the season:

Independence Day, Sun., July 4: Conejo Pops Orchestra.

Sun., July 18: Emilio Palame Band, R&B/jazz.

Sun., Aug. 15: Teresa James and the Rhythm Tramps, blues.

Labor Day, Mon., Sept. 6: Queen Nation (Queen tribute) presented by Thousand Oaks Acorn.
