Beating breast cancer




The 18th annual free Breast Cancer Awareness event titled “The Power Of Pink: How We Can Cheat, Treat and Beat Breast Cancer,” sponsored by Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center, will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sat., Oct. 18 at the Reagan Library, 40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley.

A panel of medical experts will present the latest clinical updates on breast cancer. Martin Palmer, MD, medical oncologist, will serve as program moderator. Palmer and the other physician speakers are on staff at Los Robles Hospital, the only hospital in Ventura County with a nationally accredited breast care program.

The speakers and their lecture topics are: interventional radiologist Catherine Moses, MD, “The Role of Breast Imaging in the Diagnosis of Breast Cancer”; surgical oncologist Mai Brooks, MD, “Breast Surgery Options”; radiation oncologist Gene Ahn, MD, “What to Expect with Radiation Therapy”; medical oncologist Melissa Cohen, MD, “Adjuvant Systemic Therapies for Breast Cancer”; reconstruction surgeon Kenneth Leong, MD, “Breast Reconstruction and Its Timing”; and medical oncologist Anita Kaul, MD, “Novel Systemic Therapies for Metastatic Breast Cancer.”

Also at the event, Grammy Award-winner singer/songwriter Melissa Manchester will perform specially chosen songs and speak on her commitment to fight cancer.

The individually designed and decorated “Cups of Courage: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Bras” will be on display along with numerous informational booths.

A complimentary continental breakfast will be served. All attendees will receive free admission to the museum exhibits.
