‘Bear Bear’ finds a home

The volunteers and staff at the Agoura Animal Shelter would like to thank Lisa Ames for her lovely letter about the adoption of a senior dog named Bear Bear from us last year. Those of us who work and volunteer at the shelter have a soft spot in our hearts for these very special senior animals that have the sad misfortune of ending up in a county shelter in their twilight years.

It warmed our hearts to hear of the happiness Bear Bear has found with Lisa’s friends, Robert and Colleen. We would especially like to thank Robert and Colleen who, after seeing a senior animal featured as Pet of the Week (thank you Acorn!), decided to open their hearts and home to a homeless and abandoned pup named Bear Bear. We are fortunate at the Agoura Animal Shelter to have continuous support from the public. We so appreciate the numerous adop

tions we have on a regular basis, but when a senior animal finds a new home we are ever thankful to the kind and generous person and family willing to take home and love a more mature animal.

We recognize that adopting an older animal may not always be an easy decision. Sadly, senior animals like Bear Bear are left at the shelter on a regular basis. Upon arrival at the shelter, they are understandably frightened and bewildered with everything familiar and comforting to them now gone. Some come to the shelter as a stray with an unknown history, others are simply left behind when their family moves on without them or sadder still, turned in due to the owner’s death or their move to a retirement facility where animals are often not allowed.

We have all heard from the medical community that having a companion animal can add years to your life, so why not return the favor and add some years to the life of one of our many homeless senior animals? Come adopt from us today. Robin Kahrs, Westlake Village, Lead Dog Volunteer
