Baha’i faith honors human rights

The 10th annual Human Rights Awards sponsored by the Baha’is of Ventura County and west Los Angeles County culminated recently with a banquet presentation at the Radisson Oxnard.

Among the honorees was Sharon Agnew, manager of Workforce Diversity at Amgen, an advocate for diversity in the workplace and for educational projects for youth and children; Conejo Valley Seniors Concerns, Inc., which serves seniors and their families through many support programs; Molley Rockey for her participation in the Wheel to the Sea project that enables wheelchair-bound ALS patients to experience the beautiful surroundings of Point Mugu State Park; and the Wellness Community Valley/Ventura, headquartered in Westlake Village, which offers many support programs to cancer patients and their families.

Fourteen spiritual assemblies of the Baha’i faith from Calabasas to Ventura host informational and devotional meetings in each city. They cooperate annually to mount the Human Rights Awards to mark the United Nations Human Rights Day.

The Baha’i faith "unites men and women of various religious and ethnic origins in a single world community sharing common principles and practices believed to be a blueprint for the advancement of human civilization."
