Baby Joey Run for SIDS scheduled

Food, entertainment, prizes at event

The Josephine DeMello Foundation will sponsor the second annual Baby Joey Run for Life 5K SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) and Infant Loss Run/Walk on Sat., March 13 at Constitution Park, 1287 Paseo Camarillo, Camarillo.

On-site registration starts at 8 a.m., and the run will begin at 9 a.m.

The event will also have entertainment, food and prizes, including Disneyland tickets and spa and massage gift certificates.

The Josephine DeMello SIDS Foundation was created 1½ years ago by Josephine’s mother, Yolanda DeMello, who received a phone call at work informing her that her daughter had died while at day care.

The foundation provides families affected by SIDS with educational resources, access to free sessions with licensed professionals, assistance with funeral expenses, community services and support, and also provides training to medical professionals and day care providers.

In the United States, SIDS remains the leading cause of death of infants between the ages of 1 month and 1 year.

Entry fees for the race are $25 for ages 10 and up, $15 ages 5 to 9 and free for children under 5.
