Artist sought to design ‘Art Stars’ award

The Ventura County Arts Council is seeking to commission an artist to design an award as the centerpiece of an annual awards event.

The final design will be used to recognize and honor members of the community for outstanding contributions in support and advancement of the arts in Ventura County.

This opportunity is open to interested artists residing in Ventura County.

The specifications require a 3-D sculpture or wall plaque no larger than 8 inches in any direction. A star or stars must be included as an element of the submitted design(s), and be appropriate for fabricating in multiples (a variety of materials may be suggested by the artist).

The selection will be done in two phases:

Phase I: Artists will submit drawings to scale of their design. Three views may be submitted of each design. Artists may submit up to three separate designs. Drawings should be submitted in a plastic sleeve.

Each design must be labeled with an identification of the work, and artist’s name, address, phone number and e-mail address. A completed entry form must accompany each design. The entry form is on www.venturacountyarts.net. Artists should include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with adequate postage for return of their work.

Phase 2: As many as three designs may be selected for Phase 2. For the final selection process the invited artists will be required to submit a 3-dimensional scale model of the selected design.

Artists selected for Phase 2 will receive $75 to cover materials for a final model. The artist whose model is chosen as the winning design will receive an honorarium of $1,000. The design will become the sole property of VCAC with all rights of reproduction.

Entries may be hand delivered or mailed to: Art Stars Award Competition, Ventura County Arts Council, 646 County Square Drive, Suite 154, Ventura, CA 93003-0436. Deadline is 5 p.m. Thurs., Dec. 29.
