Art exhibit at Indian Culture Center





The National Park Service will present a fine art exhibit featuring watercolor, charcoal and pencil drawings by Sam S. Banagas at the Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center weekends only from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sun., Oct. 29. The program is free to the public. The center is at Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa, Newbury Park.

Banagas is a mineral resource inspector for the state of California and the State Lands Commission. He is descended from both Cahuilla Indian and Mexican-American cultures.

His art style is a mixture of traditional plains, woodlands and surrealism. He enjoys depicting old traditions, legends and myths of many Native American Tribes. Banagas has completed a series of paintings and drawings of the native tribes of Southern California.
