Alpha course to answer faith questions for seekers, skeptics

Anthem Church in Thousand Oaks has launched its dinner-and-group-conversation Alpha series.

The series continues Thursdays through June 30.

Alpha is intended to bring people together over food and drink to explore “the big questions in life, spirituality and faith from a Christian lens in a laidback and nonjudgmental environment,” said Rob Patterson, Anthem T.O. assistant pastor.

Alpha gatherings will begin at 6:30 p.m. inside the church office, 2667 N. Moorpark Road, No. 200.

“It’s for those who do not consider themselves Christians or for those who are rethinking their faith,” Patterson said. “If you are curious, skeptical or just have questions, bring them to Alpha and explore them with new friends.”

Every Alpha meeting begins with a free meal followed by a 15-minute video that introduces the discussion for the night. Then the room breaks up into small groups where everyone can share their thoughts and opinions openly, Patterson said.

Anyone interested can attend any Thursday or every session.

The assistant pastor said the meetings are not about evangelizing but rather engaging the community.

“We have felt all the difficulties from these last two years where there has been so much disruption,” Patterson said. “We wanted to use these nights as a way for people to rebuild community, relationships and engage in good conversations.”
