AHS students bright in history





Jason Busby’s European History class at Agoura High School won eight out of a possible 36 awards at the recent History Day competition at Occidental College.


Busby’s students had the biggest haul of any high school class in Los Angeles County.


The History Day competition helps students learn about important people, places and events from the past.


The top two winners in each of nine categories will compete at a state competition May 2 in San Jose. Winners there advance to the national stage in June at the University of Maryland.


In the category of Senior Group Exhibits, Hillary Kromnick and Elexander Michaelson won a prize for their project, How Television Revolutionized the Game of Politics.


Jordan Rippe’s Website Caesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers and Perry Lee’s The Cultural Revolution: A Tragic Period in History earned top placement in the category of Senior Individual Website.


Jessica Cutrone’s Website Brown vs. the Board of Education received honorable mention.


In the Senior Group Website category, Robyn Davidman, Kara Fein, Kaycee Paller and Laura Smalarz received first alternate for their project title Abortion and the Reaction to Roe vs. Wade.


Zak Clanflone, Garrett Green, Peter Lai and Vamsidhar Chaokula won first alternate for The Counter Culture: Liberating America.


Lisa Novik took honorable mention for her Senior Individual Performance called The Germ Theory: A Past and Present Revolution.
