The city of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services announces these upcoming programs. Unless otherwise noted, all events will take place at the Agoura Hills Recreation Center, 30610 Thousand Oaks Blvd. For more information call (818) 597-7361.

A qualified individual is being sought to conduct the Agoura Hills/Westlake Village/Las Virgenes Community Concert Band and Jazz Band.

The group performs twice a year and has seven rehearsals before each concert.

Qualified individuals should call the phone number above or stop by the recreation center. Closing date for this position will be Fri., Jan. 21.

Registration is being accepted for winter classes, which are scheduled to begin the week of Jan. 24.

Classes are available for Parent and Child ages 1 to 3, tots ages 3 to 5, youths ages 6 to 10, teens ages 11 to 17 and adults ages 17 and up. Dance, art, sports, fitness and theater classes are available for a variety of age groups. New classes include Lego engineering fundamentals and Bashem Bots workshops, salsa dancing and Brit-West soccer classes.

A comprehensive fitness program is available for teens ages 14 and up, adults and seniors. Participants can purchase a fitness pass and then pick and choose the classes they want. Fitness classes include gentle yoga, Zumba, beginning yoga, RAKSA, pilates, Solid Gold and Abpiloga.

A daily drop-in fee of $8 is also available for all fitness classes.

Sensei Laura Cox, seconddegree black belt, will teach Shotokan karate for youth ages 4 to 18 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Jennifer Marshall will teach Intro to Dance (age 2½ to 5), ballet/ tap and hip- hop. Dance classes are six weeks long from Feb. 2 to March 9 and meet in the late afternoon.

Seniors who have taken the eight-hour course can take the four hour Mature Drivers Renewal Course from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Tues., Jan. 25, 2011.

No driving is involved. Participants must have taken the eighthour course in the last three years.

This program, given by Sy Rifkin, is a defensive driving course for seniors age 55 and up. It can help seniors qualify for reduced auto insurance rates.

The cost is $13 for Senior Center registrants or $15 for non-Senior Center registrants.
