Agoura High students run for a cure

More than 50 students from Agoura High School (AHS) recently participated in the American Cancer Society’s two-day Relay for Life fundraiser held in the football stadium of Newbury Park High School.

Five teams represented AHS. Members of student council, the AHS Key Club, various athletes and other students raised a minimum donation of $100 each from family, friends and local businesses.

Students walked 30-minute shifts for 24 hours. One member of each team was on the track at all times.

"This was a great experience … raising money to save people’s lives…," said Kyle Marks, ASB board representative and a two-year participant in the Relay for Life.

Joining in the fundraiser were AHS principal Larry Misel and Vice Principal Brad Benioff.

Prior to the event, Julie Anderson, student council’s commissioner of community service, promoted the event and raised money at AHS. A weeklong bake sale was held and a change drive was set up in every classroom.
