Agoura High says goodbye to senior dancers

Agoura High School’s competitive dance team bids farewell to its seniors.

The national award-winning dance team, under the direction of Erik Sosa, completed its season placing at both USA and WCE Nationals in solo, elite, small dance and medium contemporary dance divisions.

The final public performance, “Escape,” showcased the talent of the student-athletes.

 

 

Juggling AP courses while maintaining a rigorous dance rehearsal schedule, some dancers also have commitments to music and theater programs.

Each year the team produces many top seniors who receive a farewell send-off at the final performance and annual banquet.

Class valedictorian Yasmine Kasra, a two-year dance team member and soloist, will attend UC Berkeley as a Regents and Chancellor Scholar Finalist to study political science/pre-law.

As a Yale Young Globa l Schola Alumni Ambassador, she represented the United States last summer at Yale under the Politics, Law and Economics Program.

The pr o gram followed a pre-college summer program at Harvard, where she studied politics and law.

The senior is also a violinist and concertmaster for Agoura’s Orchestra II program.

Dance team captain Jade Kinomoto, a threeyear member and soloist, will attend Loyola Marymount University.

She placed sixth in the silver solo division at WCE Nationals this past March. Jade is a choreographer who worked with many AHS theater productions.

Dance team captain Sara Liang, a four-year member and soloist, will attend UCLA.

She competed as a solo finalist at both USA and WCE Nationals in March. She received the director’s award for best in technique.

Dance team hospitality officer Hannah Hammermesh, a four-year member and soloist, will attend Syracuse University next fall to study political science and communications. She is also active in the AHS theater department.

Emma Isroelit, a three-year member and soloist, has studied at the Los Angeles-based Joffrey Ballet summer program. She will study film in the fall.

Lyrissa Leininger, a two-year member, will attend UC Davis next fall. Lyrissa is also a member of Agoura’s theater department and music program.
