Dapple Destinations, a Simi Valley travel agent, recently partnered with AmaWaterways in Calabasas and hosted a river cruise to raise money for the Boys & Girls Clubs as well as the Soroptomist Club of Simi Valley.

Thirty local residents traveled together on the Danube River from Budapest, Hungary, to Vilshofen, Germany, raising nearly $8,000 to split between the two clubs.

“We are privileged to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Ama in raising funds to support two prominent local organizations,” said Dana Apple, Dapple Destinations owner.

The Boys & Girls Clubs is a “critical part” of the community and provides “innovative, quality programs” that help youths excel in school and lead healthy, productive lives, Apple said.

The Simi chapter of the Soroptimist Club is a local nonprofit. Club members say the group helps women and girls reach their full potentials and live their dreams.

“The benefit cruises have been very successful in raising funds without all of the hassles of organizing volunteers, asking for donations or planning an event that fails to produce a consistent return on investment,” Apple said.

“The concept is simple. Get a bunch of friends to go on a cruise together, make some great memories and, at the same time, raise money for a great cause.”

Last year, Dapple Destinations cruised the Rhine River with AmaWaterways and raised $5,500. The two companies will host another cruise in 2021 from Paris to Normandy.
