Affordable life in Agoura Hills?

I’m strongly in favor of the City of Agoura Hills’s purchase of a 1.7-acre lot at Colodny and Driver for the purpose of affordable housing development.

The state of California is in the middle of a severe housing crisis resulting from a shortage of affordable units, and using this lot effectively would help.

Why encourage residential sprawl that threatens the beauty of our open space and Santa Monica Mountains when we can build up unused land in already developed areas and use our space efficiently?

I look forward to what plans the city and nonprofit partners come up with for affordable housing that both chips away at our desperate need for places to house low-income families and respects neighborhood concerns.

We shouldn’t dismiss the possibility of neighborhood-compatible affordable housing out of hand until all stakeholders have an opportunity to engage with the city, see concrete development plans and understand how it would affect our community.

I hope you’ll all keep your minds open.
