Actors step up to the plate in ‘Damn Yankees’

Outreach program collecting equipment donations

Cabrillo Music Theatre will kick off its 2015-2016 season with a production of the American classic “Damn Yankees!” from Fri. to Sun., Oct. 16 to 25 at the Kavli Theater, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd.

Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

A post-show discussion with cast, staff and audience will follow the Oct. 17 performance at 2 p.m. A signed performance for the deaf and hard-of-hearing will take place at 8 p.m. Oct. 24.

This popular baseball musical will feature audience favorites such as “Heart,” “Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets,” “A Little Brains, A Little Talent” and “A Man Doesn’t Know.”

It is the story of an aging Washington Senators baseball fan who will do anything for the team to beat the New York “damn” Yankees and win the pennant.

Cabrillo Music Theatre’s production will include Renée Marino as Lola, “Mad Men’s” John Sloman as Applegate, Sarah Tattersall as Meg Boyd and Travis Leland as Joe Hardy.

CMT will run its Beyond the Footlights outreach program with the “Re-Play It” campaign, a collection of new or gently used bats, gloves, balls, cleats and other sports equipment to be donated to underserved youth through the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Valley and Ventura County.

The public can bring donations to local community partners, or to the Civic Arts Plaza at any performance of “Damn Yankees!”
