Acorns are sprouting

Last year, The Acorn newspaper celebrated its 30th anniversary as the voice of the Las Virgenes community. Earlier this week, April 3 to be exact, local residents Jim and Lisa Rule observed their own special anniversary. The Rules assumed ownership of The Acorn 10 years ago on this day in 1996, but instead of one, the family-owned business now produces five community weeklies. Say hello to the newest, The Camarillo Acorn, which begins free home and commercial delivery tomorrow.

Like the oak tree seed it’s named for, The Acorn’s goal is to grow deep roots in the communities that it serves. And like the first Acorn three decades ago, the Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Simi Valley and Camarillo Acorn newspapers recognize the importance of maintaining a strong relationship with readers. The papers are being delivered to more than 135,000 homes from Calabasas to Camarillo, but each publication is custom-made to meet the needs of the local residents.

It’s been our experience that readers care deeply about what happens close to home. According to the feedback we receive, schools, clubs, activities, friends and businesses are what matter most in people’s day-to-day lives and these are the areas where The Acorn focuses coverage. From a small supermarket shopper 30 years ago to a thriving publishing business today, The Acorn’s commitment remains the same: all local news all the time. And as always, you can get involved.

Our Letters to the Editor is a wonderful forum to create discussion, spark debate or bring recognition to those in your neighborhood who work quietly behind the scenes. Thanks for making our family part of your family each and every week, and enjoy The Acorn.
