Acorn named top news source

The Thousand Oaks Acorn was named as the most popular source for local news and information in a recently completed Community Attitude Survey undertaken by the city.

Forty-one percent of residents chose the Acorn , with the Ventura County Star newspaper following with 29 percent, just 3 percent more than the Internet in general, at 26 percent. The city’s website came in at 22 percent.

Respondents could name three sources, which explains how the percentages exceed 100 percent.

“The city places a high priority on effective communication with residents, so understanding how residents access information assists us in the effective dissemination of information,” said Andrew Powers, the city’s public information officer.

The Thousand Oaks Acorn is happy to have finished first in the survey, said editor Steve Holt.

“But it also serves as a reminder that we need to raise the bar even higher,” he said.
